WHITEWATER VALLEY MARINE CORPS LEAGUE AUXILIARY NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010 Officer Nominations and Elections: Wed., March 31, 2010 @ 1800 HRS (6pm) The Department of Indiana, Marine Corps League Spring Conference was hosted by the Tripoli Detachment No. 844 in Marion on Saturday and Sunday March 6-7, 2010 at the Comfort Suites. At this conference, Pat Smith, Auxiliary Department President, conducted roundtable meetings to share projects and ideas and to address Unit concerns and questions. The Southern Belles Unit from Evansville participates in a program sending merchandise coupons to an overseas base that they have adopted. It sounds like a rewarding endeavor and is on the agenda for us to discuss at our next meeting. During the Saturday evening meeting, Loretta See, Whitewater Valley Junior Vice President, led a vigorous discussion about the volunteer hours reports. After over two and a half hours, a consensus was reached on most of the issues; the discussion will resume at the convention. Dept of Indiana Convention will be in Indianapolis June 18, 19, 20 Fall conference will be hosted by the Howlin Mad Detachment in Hobart. Date: TBD The Kicks 96 & WHON St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Annual Radiothon - Thursday, March 25th & Friday, March 26th Volunteers are needed again for this year's St. Jude's Radiothon at Kicks 96 radio station on Tingler Rd. The hours are from 6am to 6pm. You'll answer the phones in one hour blocks. Of course, you can do more than one block if you wish; the scripts (and the refreshments) are provided. Operation Care Package The Auxiliary will be assembling care packages for troops overseas on Saturday, March 13th at 1330 HRS (1:30pm). Last month, three Indiana Marines died in Afghanistan: Sgt. Jeremy R. McQueary, 27, of Columbus, IN, died FEB 18 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Lance Cpl. Joshua H. Birchfield, 24, of Westville, IN, died FEB 19 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California. Cpl. Gregory S. Stultz, 22, of Brazil, IN, died FEB 19 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. Please remember all of our men and women serving our country for our freedom!
