We will be doing Field Day at the Marine Corps League on October 23, 2010 starting at 9 a.m. The Marine's Prayer Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose in deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold. If I am inclined to doubt; steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer. Amen. Bill McFarland Commandant House Committee Report The Club seems to be running fairly smooth right now. As always we need to thank the Ladies Auxiliary for everything they do. While I’m at it, this summer, Terry has been helping out at the club a lot and I really appreciate it. I want to welcome our newest bartender Kodi. She’s a real asset to us. We’ve been doing real good for the past few weekends and I also wanted to let everyone know we have drink specials on the board so come on down and join the fun. Gung Ho! Larry Parks Chaplain’s Report Last month we lost two life members, Don Longfellow and James Shuminoff. Let us all remember their families. Don was one of the first members I met when I joined the Marine Corps League. It’s past and present members like him that make the MCL what it is today and what our new, younger members can take the MCL to. Don was a good example to us all. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 I’ve been a member of churches, help centers and outreach centers, but our MCL has and does more for the community than most of these places I’ve known. We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Romans 15:1 Thank you all for all that you do from the Marines, Associates, Auxiliary, club and the motorcycle club members together you help so many. Hope to see you all soon and Marines and Associates come to our monthly meetings. We could use your input and we would like to see more of you at the meetings. Let me leave you with this this: A forward man soweth strife; and a whisperer separateth chief friends. Proverbs 16:28 Thanks, Mark A Minor Sr Auxiliary Report The July Auxiliary Fried Chicken Dinner and Brown Bag Bar Bingo was a tremendous success. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes! If we can get more donations, we would like to do another similar event. Our July monthly meeting was held at the MCL Cafeteria to accommodate those members who have difficulty negotiating the stairs at the Marine Corps League. If we improve attendance, we will continue to have some off-site meetings. [Just a reminder:  We are participating in the monthly Overseas Coupons Program and have adopted the Marine Corps base in Iwakuni, Japan. Please continue to show your support to these Marines and their families by providing manufacturer’s coupons; be sure to cut them out and separate them by food and non-food]. Thanks to everyone who brought their coupons to the monthly meeting. Our combined coupon total to date is $12,331.97. This season is always very busy for the Auxiliary.  During August, we will have weekly staff meetings and committee meetings every Wednesday at 6:00pm.  Everyone is invited to attend the committee meetings to provide input. Auxiliary membership is voluntary and all of our members are encouraged to participate in activities. Since we will be sending care packages again soon, we will need your help obtaining, assembling, packaging, and mailing items to support our troops overseas. We still need volunteers for upcoming events. Some of these events include Thunder of Love (St. Jude Children’s Hospital Benefit), the Fourth Street Fair, Oktoberfest in the Depot District, the Alzheimer Benefit, and, of course, the Whitewater Valley Motorcycle Club Benefit Rides on the first Sunday of each month (upcoming rides include the Toys for Tots Poker Run). The annual Whitewater Valley Marine Corps League picnic will be held on Sunday, September 19th.  The Department of Indiana Marine Corps League Fall Conference will be hosted by the Howlin Mad Detachment in Hobart, Indiana in October. Remember to submit your $20 deposit to Kay, if you are planning to attend. Meeting for September is the 12th at 2:00 pm, there are issues that need to be addressed and I hope to see you all there. I would also like my Auditors to do an audit immediately following this meeting. We are entering an extremely busy time of the year and we need to have our members get involved, again if you can help with one, or some of the events that are upcoming please come to the meeting and we will get committee/volunteers assigned. Do we have your correct address and phone number on our roster? Do you have an email address? We don’t want you to miss any Auxiliary news! You can drop off your current information at the club or send it by email to wwvmcl@yahoo.com  Be sure to renew your Auxiliary membership dues by August 1st. Dues renewal is $22.00.
